Fair skinned, want a tan, which tanning lotion with spf is best to achieve this?

I'm fair skinned and I would really like a tan this summer...I have burnt extremely badly once in the past and I have learnt my lesson and wear sunblock religiously! I am sick of using fake tanning products as I always end up patchy and orange (sooooo NOT a good look!) I'm also sick of looking pale! I would like to try outdoor tanning, I have tried sunbeds and have had no such luck, are the Hawaiian Tropic tanning lotions (with spf) any good? If so what spf would you recommend? Please help! Thanks!
