Screws taken out of fibula/ankle fracture?

Okay so I broke my fibula or my ankle about 3 weeks ago and a week later i had surgery and had a metal plate and 8 screws put in. My doctor put me in a cast and will be going to the doctor after two weeks of surgery to see if he can take out the cast. The doctor said that after 3 months of surgery that he will take out 1 or 2 screws. Will I be asleep and be put in a cast again? Or will I be put in some sort of ankle boot for a while? Thanks
